Buckle Buddy

What is the Be A Buckle Buddy Program?

Be A Buckle Buddy is a public education program aimed at keeping kids safe in cars.  Anyone in Illinois can call 1-888-800-2642, or log onto www.bucklebuddy.org to anonymously report unbuckled kids.  Owners of reported vehicles get a packet of information about car seat safety, and Illinois law.

Why is there a Be A Buckle Buddy Program?

Nationally 4 out of 5 car seats are used incorrectly.  Parents want to do the right thing for their children, but sometimes don’t know state law or where to get help with their car seats.  The information contained in the Be a Buckle Buddy packet gives parents resources for assistance with car seats, and educates them on Illinois law.

Be a Buckle Buddy encourages everyone traveling on Illinois roadways to buckle up  Remember, you are the role model for children traveling in your vehicle.  Buckle up for yourself and your children!

What happens to a person that is reported by A Buckle Buddy?

Reported drivers get a letter explaining the program, a packet of information or proper car seat practices, and a copy of current Illinois car seat laws.

This program is a public education program meant to put useful information in the hands of those who may not know current Illinois car seat laws.  No tickets are issued through this program.
