Cost: $10 per half hour
The Decatur Park District’s Big Creek Riding Center features horse boarding (50+ stalls) and indoor/outdoor show facilities, as well as picturesque, wooded riding trails. The Center offers trail rides, riding lessons, lead-arounds, birthday parties, and field trips. Please stop by to take a tour!

The Children’s Museum of Illinois invites you to explore two floors of hands-on interactive exhibits. The museum offers over 10,000 square feet of exhibit space for children and families to discover. It’s the place where children play to learn, and adults learn to play.

Circling Downtown Decatur every 15 minutes. The Downtown Trolley is scheduled to be at the Transit Center (353 E. William Street) on the hour, at :15 minutes past, at :30 minutes past, and at :45 minutes past the hour, every hour, starting at 7:00 am weekdays and at 8:00 am every Saturday. The last trip of the day will start at the Transit Center at 6:00 pm, Monday thru Saturday.

Fairview Family Aquatic Center

Visit Hickory Point Mall in Forsyth and there are many free or cheap things to do! Play at the DMH Play area that features indoor slides, climbing areas and space to run. Throw pennies at the fountain and support Decatur Memorial Hospital. Or ride the kiddy rides that include a rocketship, ice cream truck and helicopter for $0.75.
Just 9 miles south of Decatur, this track is open for racing every Saturday night from April through September. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and racing starts at 7:00 p.m. Be sure to check out NASCAR Nights and the UMP Summer Nationals.
You can book a tour of the gardens, make reservations for high tea, brunch and other individual or group excursions at Mari-Mann. Or, just show up and browse through the marvelous gardens, and explore the gift shop brimming with fragrant oils, herbal sauces and seasonings, decorative wreaths and the largest selection of homeopathic products and herbal supplements found anywhere.

Play-More Play-Land

Family fun is readily available at this 18-hole miniature golf course. If speed is more you style, rent some Go Karts and take a spin on their track. For the younger ones, Pla-MorPla-Land offers a kiddie Go Kart track for racers as young as 4 years of age.

Rock Springs Conservation Area
Rock Springs Center is the largest park in the Macon County Conservation District properties with a total of 1,343 acres in the southwest area of Decatur, IL. The Sangamon River runs through Rock Springs and several small ponds dot the landscape. A wide range of terrain including forest, wetland, grassland, and restored Illinois prairie make Rock Springs a destination for nature lovers. Rock Springs is also home to a large nature center, a museum, a restored farmhouse, nearly nine miles of hiking trails, and a paved bike trail. Rock Springs is a favorite for families all year round. Rooms and pavilions are available for rent for meetings and events.

Take a walk on the wild side at Decatur’s Scovill Zoo, on the banks of scenic Lake Decatur. Scovill is an AZA-accredited zoo. The zoo has more than 100 species of animals, birds and reptiles. Be sure to check out the North American Timberwolves, the South African Cheetahs and the Bactrian Camels
